The Pixel didn’t have a home button, though, so didn’t have that design constraint. Putting the sensor on the back might make sense if you start from a blank slate, but given the presence of the home button on the iPhone and its crucial role in controlling the device, putting the fingerprint sensor under there is the perfect solution. Also more likely to stay clean.
